ABOUT YUN WEN

Yun Wen is a London-based visual artist and filmmaker working across photography and moving image. Her practice centres on observation and reflection, using the camera not simply to document reality, but to reframe lived experience through subtle gestures, emotional shifts and visual tension.

Positioned as an observer, Yun is particularly interested in the relationship between individuals and their social environments, and in the moments where emotion, memory and perception resist straightforward interpretation. Her work often begins with personal experience but moves beyond autobiography, translating uncertainty into open-ended visual propositions that invite viewers to bring their own associations and interpretations.

Yun’s approach is informed by her background in film and creative advertising across Beijing, Hong Kong and the UK. She graduated with First-Class Honours in Film from Lancaster University, and her directorial debut, Boarding the Midnight Train, received Best Student Film at the Portugal Indie Film Festival in 2023. Her practice has since expanded across film, photography and contemporary visual art, with an ongoing interest in how images can hold emotional complexity without resolving it into a fixed narrative.
